GIJ holds webinar on political communications in pandemic
To help political parties find innovative ways of reaching their target audience with their messages ahead of the December 7 general elections in this period of COVID-19, the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) will from today [Tuesday, October 20, 2020] host an online conference to bring academic perspectives to bear on policy actions and praxis from a political communications perspective.
The webinar conference dubbed: “GIJ Pol Comm Series / Political Communications in the Age of a Pandemic” is aimed at exploring topics to help political parties learn more about doing political communications in a period of a pandemic.
The initiative will further provide opportunities for the political parties to understand the fundamentals of political communications in pandemic, the challenges as well as the opportunities it presents.
The one-day online conference is in two sessions [morning and afternoon] with different panel and moderators, with each session spanning one-and-half hour. There will be questions and answers session as well.
The main topic for the day is “Political Communications in an age of Pandemic; challenges and opportunities.”
However, there will be other subtopics such as “Government and Campaigns Communications: Constraints and new opportunities” and “Mediatisation in the time of pandemic- Spin rising or falling?”
“This online conference is in the spirit of demonstrating thought leadership in innovative communication as well as defining appropriate solutions in reaching the voter during a pandemic. This is going to be the first of its kind to bring academic perspectives to bear on policy actions and praxis from a political communications perspective,” a concept note on the initiative stated.
