Groups call for Kpando DCE’s removal

Three organised groups in Kpando have staged a demonstration in Kpando to back their call for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs Delali Avortri-Adinyira, from office.

Made up of market women, People Living with Disabilities and the Kpando Torkor Irrigation Farmers’ Co-operative Society, the groups appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to sack the MCE or risk losing votes in this year’s election.

The MCE has been accused of dividing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area, abusing office, grossly disrespecting them, poor leadership skills and pettiness, among others irresponsible acts.

The demonstration came on the heels of a petition sent by some market women to the President a few weeks ago to remove the MCE.

They promised to continue pressing home their request until she leaves office.

No vote for NDC

The groups threatened to “punish” the NDC in the forthcoming general election, if the President refuses to heed their call.

The protestors held placards some of which read: “Why Kpando?”;  “Adinyira is killing us”;  “Adinyira must go”;  and “Mr President, she is lying about Kpando.”

Speaking to the media after the peaceful demonstration,  the Kpando Market Queen, Madam Sena Howusu, said the municipality, which was fast growing under her predecessor Mr. Francis Ganyaglo, was now at a standstill due to the incumbent’s unilateral decisions regarding the affairs of the area.

“Anytime Kpando was mentioned in the past, it was for good things, but since the appointment of Mrs Adinyira, the glory of Kpando is diminishing. Previously, Mr Ganyaglo will consult us and discuss with us to come to a consensus on market tolls but this woman just imposes levies on us,” she said.

Madam Howusu added: “Since she came to office, market tolls have increased more than 100 per cent, yet we can’t see any development; we don’t know what she is doing with the money.”

Stressing that they will continue to push for the dismissal of the MCE, the market queen cautioned, “If the President fails to listen to us, we have no option but to vote against the NDC.”

More in support

The President of People Living with Disability of Kpando, Ms Vivian Nartey, said they could not understand why their representative to the assembly was rejected unilaterally by the MCE.

“She says that she has her preferred person, so we should send that person to represent us. She insisted we conducted another election, which we did, and again I emerged victorious but she insists it is either that person or nobody,” Ms Nartey said.
