“My attention has been drawn to postings  on social media network suggesting that either I have an intention or I’m being pressurised to throw my hat into the ring in the contest for the flagbearership of the NDC for the 2020 presidential election.

“In reaction, I wish to state for the record that I have no intention of contesting the presidential election of 2020 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress or any political party or as an independent candidate,” he said in a press statement issued in Accra last Wednesday.

Retirement

Dr Yankey said he was using his retirement to reflect on his long public and political office and what to do next.

“Having served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gas Company Limited and as one-time Minister of Health in the NDC government under the leadership of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, and having long attained the compulsory retiring age of 60 years, I have decided to spend my retirement in reflection over my long period in public and political office, possibly concentrate on writing my memoirs and focus on a legal, finance and investment consultancy firm which I am in the process of setting up,” he said.

Dr Yankey, nonetheless, stated that he would remain a loyal member of the NDC.

“I will continue to give my unflinching support and assistance to the NDC, the party that I love and which I have loyally served during my political career,” he said.
