“Ignore  any claims by any of the candidates that he/she is  the  President’s choice,” the President declared in a statement.

According to the statement,  there is no President’s choice or his  preferred person in the December 20, national delegates congress.

The statement therefore urged the delegates to vote for whoever they believed had the capacity and ability to help grow the party and work with the millions of supporters across the country.

“As  President and leader, it is who you, the delegates, decide on that I will work with, ” the statement added.

The President, however,  extended his well wishes to all persons vying for various executive positions in the party.

Background

The party recently held its constituency and regional elections to elect executives  to steer the affairs of the party at the grass-roots level. After the successful conclusion of the constituency and regional congresses, the next phase of the party organisation towards the 2016 election is for the national delegates congress to elect national officers which has been slated for December 20, 2014 in Kumasi.

President Mahama urged all contestants to continue to engage in a campaign of ideas and strategies.

In the President’s view, the prime objective should be how to make the NDC, “which is the only party that truly cares for the people of Ghana and continues to demonstrate that through its policies and actions, stronger and more formidable.”
