Let’s overcome polarisation — Hlordzi

The youth of the various political parties have been asked to work together to overcome intolerance and vile attacks which do not promote democracy.

Mr Ludwick Hlordzi, National Youth Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), said he found the suspicion and tension that had defined the relationship of the parties worrisome.

He said the situation where particularly, supporters of the two major parties, the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), could not stand one another and tended to take entrenched positions on almost every single national issue must be subdued.

This, he pointed out, was counter-productive to the country’s political development and a threat to peace and stability.

He was speaking to a cross-section of journalists in Kumasi during a tour of the Ashanti Region to interact with the youth of his party.

Mr Hlordzi underlined the need to put the nation’s development above partisan politicking, and said all should accept to go down that path.

This was not to say there should be no criticism but this must be constructive and well-intended, he added.

He gave an upbeat assessment of the performance of the government and said the increasing confidence in the economy shown by investors, both foreign and local, attested to the efficient manner things were being managed.

Mr Hlodzi encouraged the youth to take advantage of the various employment opportunities created to become economically self-supporting.

He also appealed to the financial institutions to do more to reduce their interest and support the youth with credit facilities to enable them venture into businesses. —GNA
