Mahama condemns secessionists
Former President John Mahama has condemned the activities of the Western Togoland movement, warning that Ghanaians will not watch them divide the country.
He said Ghana was a sovereign republic and that no one had a right to claim part of Ghana hence the activities of the group must not be entertained.
Commenting on the activities of the group while addressing the chiefs and people of Jinijini as part of his Bono Regional tour, Mr Mahama said the actions of the secessionist group could be dire for the country if copied by other ethnic groups.

His comment follows a series of attacks perpetrated by members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation last Friday in the Volta Region.
United Ghana
He said the beauty of Ghana was the harmony with which its citizens had cohabited among themselves over the years.
“Ghana’s land belongs to Ghana, Ghana is a sovereign republic and nobody can claim a part of Ghana. When Rawlings built Ghana, we were all part,” he said.
“All of us come together to make Ghana so we cannot sit aloof and watch some people take Ghana. If it’s so, then everyone will trace their history and come for a part of their share which will not be a good thing. What brings us together is the fact that we are all Ghanaians,” Mr Mahama stated.
Illegal mining
In another development, former President Mahama has stated that his next government intended to streamline the activities of the illegal mining sector to ensure responsible mining, reports Biiya Mukusah Ali from Dormaa-Akwamu/Wamanafo.
According to him, the next NDC government would established a gold mining board in every district to ensure the management of the activities of gold mining.

Mr Mahama was speaking to the chiefs and people at Wamanafo and Dormaa Akwamu in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region as part of his three-day campaign tour in the region.
The former President and his entourage explained issues in the People’s Manifesto, the NDC's 2020 manifesto, which addresses specific needs of the areas he visited.
Gold board
Mr Mahama explained that the gold mining board office would be managed by graduates from the University of Mines and Technology at Tarkwa who had acquired knowledge in mining.
He explained that with the new policy, miners with limited tools and equipment would be supported to help increase their production and also ensure responsible mining.

Reclamation
He explained that as part of the policy, a part of the profit realised from the sale of gold would be dedicated for the operation of the Gold board, which would include reclaiming lands.
Mr Mahama said his major aim was to use such opportunities to create employment for the teeming youth in the country.
Ensure peace
The Omanhene of Dormaa Akwamu, Nana Ampabeng Kyeremeh, reminded politicians that Ghana was bigger than any political party and urged them to ensure that there was peace before, during and after this year's election.
