Mahama nominates Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister of Foreign Affairs
President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as the Minister designate for Foreign Affairs.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the acting spokesperson of the President. Mr Ablakwa's nomination is part of the President’s third batch of ministerial appointments submitted to Parliament for approval.
Born on August 11, 1980, in Aveyime-Battor in the Volta Region, he is a Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, a position he has held since 2009.
Mr Ablakwa holds a Master’s degree in Leadership and Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Ghana.
Before his parliamentary career, he served as Deputy Minister of Information under President John Evans Atta Mills, where he spearheaded key public communication strategies.
He later became a prominent advocate for education, serving on the Education Committee in Parliament and championing access to quality education for underprivileged communities.
Throughout his political career, Mr Ablakwa has gained recognition for his articulate defence of Ghana’s interests on both national and international platforms.
He is also a proponent of social equity and youth empowerment, often using his influence to support initiatives that address poverty and inequality.
As Ghana’s potential Foreign Affairs Minister, Ablakwa is expected to bring his experience, diplomacy, and vision to bear on the country’s international engagements aiming to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations while promoting Ghana’s role as a leader in regional and global diplomacy.
He is the chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) tasked by President Mahama with investigating and documenting cases of alleged corruption and recovering misappropriated state resources.
A devout Christian and family man, Mr Ablakwa is known for his humility and dedication to his constituents.
