Give P.V. Obeng state burial - Manly-Spain

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, has advocated a state burial for Paul Victor Obeng for serving his country diligently and selflessly from 1979 till his sudden demise last Saturday, May 17, 2014.

In his view, such a positive gesture would make present and future generations die for this country by way of pursuing the vision and mission of the nation rather than thinking about themselves alone.

President John Dramani Mahama has averred that Mr  Obeng was a passionate nationalist and patriot, full of practical ideas, solutions and optimism for the good of Ghana and Ghanaians and was always there to bring his vast experience, institutional knowledge and great connections across many sections of  the Ghanaian society to bear on any challenge faced by the country.

According to Mr Manly-Spain, “‘When we do this, people will be committed and dedicated to duty since they know their sacrifices will be rewarded one day.”

In a statement issued to the press, he expressed his condolences to his wife, children and family and stated that Mr Obeng as a politician, professional and technocrat had contributed his quota to national development in diverse ways, adding that his death was a big blow to the country.

Mr Manly-Spain further advised all to emulate the lifestyle of  Mr Obeng, whom he described as honest, peacemaker, fine politician and a team player ready to take up new challenges.

He said he was not surprised to hear President Mahama describe Mr Obeng as ‘a tireless public servant, an admirable unifier and giant of our political landscape over the past 30-plus years’.

To this end, Mr  Manly-Spain entreated all Ghanaians to give their best to ensure Ghana become a better place for all to live in.
