NASPA elects new national executive

At the end of the election, Tabbi Wilberforce Awotwe was elected President. He polled 15 votes to beat his four other contenders.

James Twum who aspired for the position of General Secretary, secured 26 votes to beat Patricia Osei.

Polling 26 votes, Jarvis Kwame Baidoo was elected the Organising Secretary, while Cephas Ofoe Ocquye was elected unopposed as Financial Secretary.

The congress which was chaired by Sewuahene, Nana Amankwa Sarkodie II, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had the theme: “Fostering National Unity for Better Socio-economic Development – The Role of the Service Scheme”.

The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Mr Vicent Senam Kuagbenu, indicated that the nation had made huge savings through the deployment of service personnel to critical sectors.

He commended service persons for their readiness and acceptance to serve in very difficult and challenging environments and asked district assemblies, school authorities and other stakeholders to help in the provision of accommodation “for our service personnel”.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the NSS, Mr Kwesi Quainoo, who was the host, said since its inception in 1973, the service had achieved a lot with its vision of being leaders in youth service endeavours through its programmes.

In attendance were regional directors of the NSS as well as the Kumasi Metro Director of the service, Mr Emmanuel Asiedu-Boafo.
