Consequently it has set out on a mission to deliver votes that will ensure the target.

Kumbungu chief

To this end, the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, last Tuesday, began a four-day campaign tour of the Northern Region to canvass for votes in the forthcoming election.

He set off to the Kumbungu Constituency with a visit to the Paramount Chief of the Kumbungu Traditional Area, Kunbung Naa Iddrisu Abu II, where he introduced the NDC parliamentary candidate, Mr Ras Mubarak, to the chiefs and people.

Naa Iddrisu commended the government for bringing numerous development projects to the Kumbungu District, but asked for model educational and health institutions in the district.

He lauded the NDC administration for making Kumbungu a separate district from the former Tolon-Kumbungu District to accelerate development.

Mr Amissah-Arthur responded positively to the request of the chief with an assurance that the NDC, being  a listening government, would take immediate measures to address those concerns.

Visit to Zangbalung

From Kumbungu, the campaign trail visited Zangbalung, a community in the district where the Vice-President drummed home his message of continuity to the people of the area.

He reiterated his call to Ghanaians to reject the change the NPP was propagating, arguing that “such a disruptive change” would draw the development clock of the country backwards’’.  Instead, he called for the retention of President Mahama to guarantee continuity in projects.

The Regent of Zangbalung, Amidu Sulemana, endorsed the second-term bid of the President, citing accelerated development in the community and the district at large.

Team at Vogu

At Vogu, the chief, who is a Member of the Council of State, Mohammed Bawah Abdulai,  expressed the opinion that since every President in the fourth republic was given an eight-year mandate, that of President Mahama should not be an exception.

Mr Amissah-Arthur asked the people to vote for Mr Mubarak, explaining that having him with the NDC in power and in Parliament would make it easier to secure development initiatives for the constituency.

By-election

A by-election in Kumbungu in April 2013 saw a contestant from the Convention People’s Party (CPP) snatching the seat from the NDC and it was for that reason that the Vice-President urged the electorate to correct the mistake by returning an NDC candidate to Parliament.

Also on the campaign trail was the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Abdullah Abubakari; his deputy, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini; a deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Ms Barbara Serwaa Asamoah; a former National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan; a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, among other NDC stalwarts.
