NPP, CPP commit to corruption-free Ghana

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) have committed themselves to ensuring a corruption-free Ghana, if elected into office in 2016.

The two political parties made the commitment at a corruption forum organised by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra.
Supported by DANIDA, the forum was expected to obtain pledges from the four political parties with representation in Parliament on the anti-corruption campaign.
The other parties are the National Democratic Congress and People’s National Convention.
However, only the NPP and the CPP honoured the invitation.

Anti-corruption
Making the case of the NPP on the anti-corruption campaign, an official of the party, Mr Bob Charles, said Ghanaians had to opt for a leader who is not corrupt.
He said opting for an incorruptible leader meant that all could be carried along in the campaign against corruption.
Additionally, it showed that there would be the commitment to fight against corruption.
Mr Charles pledged that an NPP-led government would resource anti-corruption institutions such as the CHRAJ, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC).

Spirit of integrity
A Deputy Communications Director of the CPP, Mr Abdul Aziz Gomda,  pledged that a CPP-led government would begin a social transformation agenda.
It would involve inculcating in all Ghanaians the spirit of integrity.
Mr Gomda said the CPP viewed the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) as the “best bet” to ensure that corruption did not thrive in the country.
He added that the CPP would be committed to the national policy document and work in achieving the results envisaged.
