The Managing Director of the Voiceless Media, Chief Akilu Sayibu, has stated that his desire to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region was only out of his love for the people.

In that regard, he lamented the slow pace of development of the constituency and stated that if given the nod, he would implement a number of projects geared towards improving the standard of living of the constituents and accelerated development.

Chief Akilu was speaking to the media at his Tolon residence.

Chief Akilu was the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Tamale North in 2012 but has now relocated to the Tolon Constituency to serve following widespread calls from the people of the Tolon Constituency.

Vision

The MP hopeful disclosed that his topmost priority, when he goes to Parliament, would be to curb indiscipline in the Tolon Senior High School (SHS) by constructing a fence around the campus and to provide a pickup for the headmaster for effective transportation and supervisory services.

Chief Akilu also pledged to provide an ambulance and another pickup for the Tolon District Hospital to facilitate effective healthcare delivery and outreach services to communities within the constituency.

"Good drinking water shall be another thing I will prioritise as an MP and I will not mind using my salary as a Member of Parliament to initiate the above projects which are long overdue,” he stressed.

He commended the Ministries of Roads, Energy, Communications and Education for some interventions that they had implemented in the constituency and appealed for more opportunities and initiatives on behalf of the constituents of Tolon.

Chief Akilu, who is a former Deputy Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, also commended the ruling NPP government for the various job opportunities they had made available to the youth.

The NPP per its timelines would open nomination on December 20, 2023 and closed on January 4, 2024 in constituencies where the NPP has sitting MPs, followed by election on February 24, 2024.
