Philip Addison's allegations false — Nii Nortey

A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, who is now running for the party's parliamentary slot in that constituency, Mr Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has accused another aspirant, Lawyer Philip Addison, of perpetuating falsehood, mischief, malice, propaganda and division in the party.

He has, therefore, challenged Mr Addison, his contender, to give further details of his claim that he (Nii Noi) had declared his support for him (Addison).

Mr Addison had earlier  in a radio interview accused Nii Noi Nortey of stabbing him in the back because the latter promised to support his candidature and even introduced him at a funeral as the party's parliamentary candidate for 2016.

Mr  Addison alleged that he had meetings with Nii Noi Nortey and discussed his intentions with him as Chairman of the party in the constituency; so for Nii Noi to resign and contest him (Addison) was a betrayal of trust.

But Nii Noi Nortey, in a rebuttal, said Mr Addison's allegations were unfounded, palpably false, malicious, mischievous and a fabrication which threatens to divide the party.

“I have never sponsored, caused to happen or had any such discussion with Mr Philip Addison to endorse his candidature for the Klottey Korle Constituency. I have never been in a meeting with Mr Addison to have given him my full support and I challenge him to give further details of such a claim” he said.

Nii Noi was reacting on Citi FM, an Accra-based radio station, last week Wednesday to a claim by Mr Addison, lawyer for the NPP 2012 Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in the election petition.

"I want to state categorically that the statement made by Mr Addison, a legal practitioner, is palpably false, malicious, and mischievous and a calculated attempt to tarnish my hard-won reputation as a loyal member of the New Patriotic Party," he said in the statement.

Nii Noi Nortey is, therefore, challenging Mr Addison to provide evidence of a meeting the two of them had where he (Nortey) gave his support to him (Addison).

"It is clear that this propagandist approach to story cooking has the tendency of causing unnecessary bickering and undermining the unity and harmony of the party," he said.

He assured his teeming followers of a clean campaign and subsequent victory for the party in 2016 if given the mandate to run on the party's ticket.

Mr Addison, on Citi FM, said “I consider it unfortunate that it should be so, especially having discussed with him at the outset of the declaration of my candidature and he, having indicated to me his full support but I see that he persists so we have to go for the contest.

“I had a meeting with him where he gave his full support to me. Indeed, he followed it up with a funeral we had in the constituency for one of our old men and he organised it and led me there and I was introduced as the person who was coming there as the candidate. Subsequent to that I started hearing that he himself was going for the seat but I had a meeting with him and he declared his full support for me.”

However, Nii Noi has described such comments as unfounded and mere fabrications which had no iota of truth.

He has, therefore, called on party members, supporters and sympathisers to remain resolute and eschew division to ensure victory in 2016.
