Police arrest 12 suspects for looting in Tamale and causing damage to properties in Damango.

In the Tamale incident chaos erupted after some youth vandalised the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly premises and looted food items from a warehouse.

The incident occurred moments after the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential election to the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

 According to eyewitnesses, the youth, wearing NDC-branded T-shirts stormed the assembly and damaged some property and carted food supplies reportedly intended for community distribution.

In Damango, the district office of the Electoral Commission in Damango in the Savannah Region was set on fire over disagreements about the collation of the 2024 Election results.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is in the process of collating the results for the constituency parliamentary and presidential elections, where the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, is the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP).

POLICE ARREST 12 SUSPECTS FOR LOOTING AND CAUSING DAMAGE TO PROPERTIES IN SOME PARTS OF THE COUNTRY

  1. The Ghana Police Service has arrested 12 suspects for locting and causing damage to properties in some parts of the country.
  2. Preliminary investigations have established that the suspects have attacked and caused damage to some state properties including the setting ablaze of the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damango in the Savannah Region, causing damage to some residences of District Chief Executives (DEs) in some parts of the country and vandalizing of some collation centres.
  3. Additionally, some of the suspects broke into the School Feeding Project Warehouse in Tamale in the Northern Region, and made away with some items including foodstuffs.
  4. Footages of the attacks, vandalism and looting have been obtained and are being reviewed by a team of dedicated investigators to get other perpetrators arrested to face justice.We urge the public to remain calm as Police officers have been strategically deployed to key locations with intensified patrols to maintain law and order.
