Posters of Addai-Nimoh pop up in Accra

Even before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) elects its national executives to activate the process to get a flag bearer for the 2020 election, posters of Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh have popped up in the capital city, Accra, describing him as the party’s potential leader for the election.

The posters, which have started popping up in Accra, have the inscription “NPP 2020 – Addai Nimoh” with a mammoth crowd at the background.

An excited Addai-Nimoh is seen wearing a smock branded in the blue, white and red colours of the NPP and smiling broadly.

It is not clear where the posters emanate from, but it suggests that he could be lacing his boots behind the scenes for the 2020 election or some friends are doing the bidding for him.

Denial

The former NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region, who was a contender in the party’s presidential primary in 2014 which saw President Akufo-Addo emerge victorious, has, however, denied having knowledge of the posters.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic yesterday, he said he had not made up his mind to contest in the 2020 election, let alone put out posters to that effect.

Uncertainty

One can, however, not rule out the possibility of Mr Addai-Nimoh contesting the NPP primary to lead the party in 2020 because there have been instances where political figures distanced themselves from rumours linking them to certain contests but ended up in the race.

Brief leadership background

Mr Addai-Nimoh has served as a Member of the Poverty Reduction Committee of Parliament (2013); Vice-President, Global Legislators Organisation for Balanced Environment (GLOBE), Ghana Chapter, Parliament of the Republic of Ghana (2014 and running); and as a Member, Select Committee on Environment, Science and Technology, Parliament of the Republic of Ghana (2009 - 2013).

He also served as a Member of the Special Budget Committee of Parliament (2009 – 2013) and as the Vice Chairman, Methodist Men’s Fellowship (Adjirigano Branch), Methodist Church, Ghana (2012 - 2014).
