Pray for Supreme Court judges — FMC

The Federation of Muslim Councils of Ghana (FMC) has called on Muslims to use the last day of Ramadan to intensify their prayers for the country and the nine judges of the Supreme Court to enable Allah to guide them in coming out with their verdict.

“We urge all Imams to sensitise their congregations in the mosques, especially during the Eid-ur-Fitr Khutbah (sermon), to the need to avoid violence and maintain peace before and after the verdict by the Supreme Court, for peace (salaam) is the ultimate reward in the hereafter,” it said.

In a statement signed by Hajj Muhammed Amir Kpakpo Addo, the General Secretary of the FMC, the federation appealed  to the generality of Muslims, especially the youth, not to allow themselves  to be used by anybody wanting to foment  trouble and violence to disturb the peace.

It noted with concern the tension that attended the hearing of the election petition before the Supreme Court, saying it found it prudent to call on Ghanaians to maintain the peace at all times, especially during the countdown to and after the verdict by the justices of the Supreme Court.

“We are witnesses to the carnage and internal displacement in the sub-region as a result of conflict. The FMC, therefore, discourages the use of force, violence and intemperate language during this time of our nationhood, taking into consideration the destabilising consequences of conflict in the entire sub-region,” it said.

It also commended the commitment by both President John Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to accept and abide by the verdict of the Supreme Court.

“It is the view of the FMC that both leaders and their supporters continue to comport themselves in order to resolve the matter peacefully in the spirit of patriotism,” the statement said.

The FMC also expressed delight  at  the commitment  of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Alhassan, to maintain law and order at all times.
