Reconsider decision — NDC executive

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akyem Achiase Constituency have appealed to assembly members who have taken entrenched position by voting against the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South, Nana Baffour Mensah-Takyi, to reconsider their decision.

They said since President John Mahama renominated Nana Mensah-Takyi as the DCE last year, the assembly members had failed to confirm his appointment on four occasions and the situation was negatively affecting the development of the young district.

The constituency NDC Secretary, Mr Francis Williams Yaw Adu, on behalf his colleagues, made the appeal at a well-attended news conference at Akyem Achiase last weekend.

He said Nana Mensah-Takyi, who was the second DCE to be appointed since the creation of the district in 2008, did well within the period of two years to provide permanent office accommodation for the district assembly to replace the rented premises.

According to Mr Adu, Nana Mensah-Takyi has not only constructed modern school blocks for a number of communities, but has also lobbied the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to provide large quantities of dual desks for many schools in the district.

He stressed that as Nana Mensah-Takyi was a peace-loving man, he had effectively collaborated with the security agencies in the district to avert communal violence and bloodshed emanating from chieftaincy related problems in some of the major towns in the district.

In terms of health promotion, Mr Adu said the DCE had been personally going round with the staff of the District Health Directorate during polio and other national immunisation programmes to promote good health, adding that he had also provided many clinics and CHIPS compounds for the deprived communities in the district.

“Indeed, one cannot point out and substantiate any serious offence committed by Nana Mensah-Takyi, but as he is a human being, he is not infallible, so one cannot rule out some minor mistakes or offences which he might have committed against certain individuals or groups in the cause of his work on personal scores  or as DCE ,” he stated.
