He clarified that the commission had not used a biometric voting system for the just-ended general election but “a biometric system which checks the identity of the voter. Our voting system is still manual. The machine checks your identity mainly by your fingerprint”.
The EC Chairman, however, admitted that there had been challenges with the biometric verification system.
“Remember that this is the first time that we used such machines and it’s on a large scale, about 26,000 of them, and with the little training that we did, it was expected that not everything would perform to perfection. There were lapses in performance, so we had to continue the elections into the following day,” he said.
