Five of the candidates are contesting for the first time except Mr John Kofi Amuzu, a businessman who has contested on two consecutive times and lost.

The incumbent, Mr Duke Moses, will not be contesting due to personal reasons.

The five contestants are Henry Austin Osman Sackey, Emmanuel Nii Nagoe, Adu Michael, Mackenzie Amartey Badde and Albert Fleischer.

The contenders, over the past months, have engaged in various campaigns to win the hearts and votes of the voters.

On February 22 this year, the six will mount a platform, organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Awudome Park, to climax their campaign with a final opportunity to engage voters in an interaction.

Dubbed: ‘The Platform Mounting,” the event would also be used by the EC to educate voters on how the elections would be held on March 3, 2015.

A contender’s vision

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Mr Amuzu, who is also the Organiser of the National Sport for All Organisations Association, expressed strong optimism about winning the position.

According to him, his previous experience at the district level election and his constant engagement with the voters had given him the upper hand to take over the seat as the assembly members for the Awudome Electoral Area.

Mr Amuzu mentioned education, sanitation and the provision of social amenities as his areas of focus should he win the position.

He said although assembly members were not directly responsible for development projects, he would use his political power to solicit financial assistance to develop the Awudome area.

According to Mr Amuzu, one of the major challenges of the Awudome area was the lack of a drainage system.

“I will make sure the drainage system in the area is properly done to improve the sanitation situation,” he added.

Touching on the youth, Mr Amuzu said he would take advantage of the National Youth Policy programme introduced by the government to train the youth within the Awudome area.

He, therefore, appealed to the electorate to turn out in their numbers and vote for him to bring total change to  Awudome.
