The United Cadre Front (UCF) of Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region has advised members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop the shameful act of insulting respectable personalities in the country.

According to the United Cadres Front,  the alarming trend was dangerous and a threat to democracy.

In a press statement, the UCF pointed out that, “Ghanaians respect people  in authority, be they  political leaders or traditional rulers and insulting such personalities on any issue does not show any good example for the youth and generations yet unborn.”

The statement, signed by the leadership of the Manya Krobo United Cadres Front, Mr Kwame Awulley-Mensah, Mr Bismark K. Osei and Mr Wisdom Tsatsu, the Chairman, Organiser and member respectively, also described the act shameful.

According to the group, “Some members of the NPP have embarked upon a campaign mechanism which targets prominent people in the country, and mentioned the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as one of the targets”.

The group further recalled that on December 23, 2014, the President carried out one of the Better Ghana Agenda campaign promises by inaugurating the water system at Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

The statement continued that during the function, Nene Sakite II, the Konor (the Paramount Chief) of the  Manya Krobo  Traditional Area, as custom demanded, read the welcome address.

The statement said being an intellectual, Nene Sakite II applied the philosophy of majority decision in politics and said “We voted for you”.

However, the Lower Manya Krobo NPP, led by the Constituency Secretary, Mr Elias Terkpertey Aduimado, held a press conference purposely to attack the paramount chief and deliberately twisted the statement “we voted for you” to “we will always vote for you and your party,” thus accusing the paramount chief of indulging in partisan politics, and called on him to render an unqualified apology to the people of his traditional area.

That statement from the paramount chief, the group noted, attracted verbal attacks, insults and comments on the paramount chief on two local radio stations, KW Radio at Kpong and Rite FM at Somanya, during discussions at the stations.

The statement added that the Krobos held their chiefs in very high esteem because they were the custodians and spiritual symbol of the land and it was, therefore, a taboo for a subject to call on a paramount chief to render an apology for, as they put it, “their notorious deeds”.
