WAEC releases 2026 BECE results; See breakdown of results cancellation for malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

It said the council will dispatch the results of school candidates to their respective schools through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education.

"The results are also available on the Council's official website at www.waecgh.org for candidates who so desire to access them online," a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, John Kapi, said.

Statistics

A total of 620,243 candidates, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 participating schools, entered for the school examination.

This includes 136 candidates with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs and 510 candidates with other test accommodation needs.

The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres across the country. Out of the total number, 3,601 candidates were absent.

Examination malpractices

It said following the completion of investigations into a number of cases of irregularity detected during the conduct of the examination and marking of scripts, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners' Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2026, held on Tuesday July 21, 2026, approved the cancellation of subject results of 496 candidates; cancellation of entire results of 105 candidates;  withholding of subject results of 119 candidates and "withholding of entire results of 48 candidates.

Meanwhile, it said the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny.

"The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations by August 31, 2026.

Visit

"Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld should visit https://irreq.waecqh.orq. and click on the withheld/cancelled button on the home page. They will be redirected to the irregularity and investigations page," it said.

The statement said the page will display reasons for withholding or cancelling the results. "For withheld results, the candidates will receive information on the next line of action. Heads of school and proprietors may follow the same procedure using their results listing logins tq know the status of withheld results of their candidates," it said.

Caution
The council cautioned all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.
"Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated," it said.

The council expressed its appreciation to stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners and all who in diverse ways supported it in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
