Teach history devoid of political colouration — Osei

A lecturer and leading member of the Socialist Forum of Ghana, Professor Raymond Osei, has called on teachers of history to teach their students the true history of the country devoid of any political colouration.

According to him, quite often, some teachers who are attached to certain political ideologies, try to play down certain aspects of the political history of the country that do not cast their political leanings in good light.

He said such people would be doing the younger generation a great disservice by deliberately skewing documented history for parochial interests.

Prof. Osei said this in Accra when he delivered an address to launch his own book entitled “Terrorism under Nkrumah: A Verdict by Akufo-Addo and Others”.

The book was launched to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the death of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The book traces events that preceded and followed the assassination attempt on Dr Nkrumah at Kulungugu where a hand grenade which was concealed in a bouquet of flowers presented to him detonated.

President Nkrumah escaped death but the schoolgirl who presented the flowers and several others died in the attack.

Bombing by UP and CIA

Prof. Osei claimed the assassination attack was orchestrated by the United Party (UP) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States using Lome, Togo as their base.

The value of the book, he said, was that it set the records straight on the roles played by some members of the Big Six to subvert efforts by Dr Nkrumah in building a prosperous Ghana.

Prof. Osei said it was not all those whose pictures appeared on the Ghana Cedi note who deserved to be there, adding that some monuments of some personalities dotted in Accra constituted an affront to the people of Ghana.

Mr George Koomson, another leading member of the forum, who reviewed the book, said the book placed in perspective the vicious agenda of the UP in exile to kill Dr Nkrumah.

The book, he said, also exposed the mischief by those who peddled the falsehood that the Kulungugu bombing was orchestrated by the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

“The Kulungugu attack was a plan hatched over months { by people} including Busia, Gbedemah, Obetsebi-Lamptey among others,” he said.

He said meetings to that effect were held in Lome and Abidjan, adding that it was unfortunate the UP reserved the dirty work for the Northern Territory (NT) boys.

The first copy of the book was bought for GH¢2,500.
