According to the party,  the country’s forefathers foresaw a bright and prosperous future through hard work and dedication.

A statement signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the party, stated that their hard work and unity had culminated in the unity and peace enjoyed over five decades.

“It is the expectation of the NDC that Ghanaians will endeavour to work for the maintenance of peace and stability.

“The NDC, on this occasion, wishes to urge Ghanaians to remember the sacrifices of our forefathers, workers, farmers, fishermen, the security services, women, the youth and all Ghanaians who have toiled to bring the country this far.

“We hope their examples would inspire the current generation in our efforts to build a better Ghana,” it stated.

Exactly 57 years ago, the NDC said Ghana, under the leadership of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, attained freedom from foreign domination.

It, therefore, extended its warmest felicitations to Ghanaians, saying, “On this occasion, the NDC encourages all Ghanaians to be guided by the sacrifices made by the nation’s leaders who fought to free the country from the shackles of colonialism.”
