The 56-year-old ex-Nigeria international who took charge of the team barely a month to the competition after Gernot Rohr was sacked and was highly tipped to be handed a permanent role if the Super Eagles win the tournament until Tunisia ended their fine run on Sunday.

Moment after their exit Eguavoen hinted of his intention not to continue as the coach of the national team but to revert back to his position as the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“I will go back to my position and allow the NFF (to) make a decision on the way forward,” Eguavoen said after the match.
