PLB Awards set for tonight

Top scorer of the last Premier League season, Latif Blessing, will be hoping to be crowned with the Footballer of the Season award at tonight’s 2015/2016 GFA/PLB Awards slated for the Banquet Hall of the State House at 6p.m.

Blessing, a prolific attacker of Liberty Professionals, will come head to head with fellow contenders, Kwasi Donsu of Medeama and Dreams FC skipper, Abdul Bashiru.

The race for the topmost prize on the night will be keen, especially where they all impressed for their respective clubs, with Latif bagging 17 goals to become the top scorer.

Donsu, on the other hand, scored 15 times in the season and could be remembered for his splendid freekicks throughout the campaign.

Wa All Stars and Black Stars goalie, Richard Ofori, is the favourite to snatch the Goalkeeper of the Season award after inspiring his club to its first ever Premier League title, with Joseph Addo and young Razak Abalora of Aduana Stars and WAFA as the other competitors.

The Most Promising Player category will witness the likes of Abdul Alidu Hudu (Inter Allies), Enoch Atta Agyei (Medeama) and Mohammed Tarfik (New Edubiase) contesting for the bragging rights, while Wa All Stars’ coach, Enos Adipa, will be the favourite to be named the Best Coach ahead of Cioaba Aristica of Aduana Stars and Zacharias Manuel of Bechem United.

All Stars administrator, Samuel Oduro Nyarko, could add to the club’s success story this term by winning the CEO of the Season honours as he battles it out with James Essilfie and Albert Commey of Medeama and Aduana Stars.

In the Best Referee category, Awal Mohammed, S.B. Bortey and Daniel Laryea will slug it out for the prize, while Richard Appiah, David Agyin and Haruna Bawa chase the best assistant referee award.

Augustine Asante, Lacomba Andrew Dery and Charles Darkwah will vie for the Match Commissioner’s category, while Paul Agbenyegah, Ohene Agyei and Emmanuel Offei chase the best cameraman’s tag.

The maiden awards for PLB Chairman, Ashford Tettey Oku, will be under the distinguished patronage of Supreme Court Judge, Justice Anin Yeboah, as the Special Guest of Honour, and one-time Youth and Sports Minister, Mr Amarkai Amarteifio, as the chairman.

Among the highlights of this year’s awards will be the presentation of a special award to the immediate past PLB chairman, Welbeck Yaw Abra-Appiah.
