Stars beat Rwanda

An 88th minute strike from Mubarak Wakaso enabled Ghana’s Black Stars to seal a 1-0 win away over Rwanda in their 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Kigali last Saturday.

Wakaso's curler from a free kick proved decisive after Ghana had battled hard to break down the Rwandans on a tough-to-play pitch in front of a vociferous home crowd.

Stand-in captain, Andre Ayew came close to maintaining the scoring form he has shown at his new club, Swansea, in the English Premier League when he struck the woodwork in the first half.

Christian Atsu and Jordan Ayew also missed some decent chances.

Ghana played without their captain, Asamoah Gyan, who is injured.

Ghana have won their first two matches in the preliminaries for the 2017 finals and head the Group H standings with six points and eight goals.

Stars:  Razak Braimah, Harrison Afful, Baba Rahman, Amartey, John Boye, Afriyie Acquah/Jeffrey Schlupp, Christian Atsu/Solomon Asante, Mubarak Wakaso, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew.
