Zumdick, who coached the Stars in 2003, believes the Stars are favourites to qualify ahead of Egypt and make a fourth consecutive World Cup appearance.

Ghana was paired in Group E alongside Uganda, Egypt and Congo. The Stars would come up against the Cranes of Uganda tomorrow in their qualification opener at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, German Zumdick, who started Ghana’s 2006 world Cup qualifying campaign and led the Black Meteors to win bronze at the 2003 All Africa Games in Abuja before handing over the Stars job to Portuguese Mariano Baretto, said, "I have no fear Ghana will surely qualify for the World Cup in Russia".

"With the quality in the team now it will be difficult for any team in their group to beat them to qualification."

When asked about the team's chances, the former Asante Kotoko trainer explained that the Stars team were the strongest in the group and would definitely progress.

The German, who watched the Stars train at the Accra Spord Stadium last Monday, urged the team to triumph at next year's 2017 AFCON in Gabon and added that the team needed a slice of luck to win the continental title after coming close in 2015 as runners-up.
