CAF admits Zanzibar as a new member

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has admitted a new member into its fold - Zanbibar, at the continent’s 55th General Assembly on Thursday, March 16.

Zanzibar, becomes the 55th member of CAF and has also attained the membership of Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

Their admission was by popular acclamation, by the mebership of the General Assembly.

The wife of Ghanaian football star Michael Essien, Mrs Akosua Puni has bought Italian third division Lega Pro side Calcio Como.

Mrs Puni Essien, a British citizen of Ghanaian origin bought the club for €237,000 at a bankruptcy auction held by FC Como Limited. The figure was €10,000 more than the starting price.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has promised to ensure an effective collaboration with the private sector to ensure that sports is well developed in the country.

The President, who said this during a visit by the organisers of the Ghana’s Fastest Human and past athletics, lauded the partnership of some private organisations for supporting the programme over the years.

Madagascar FA chief Ahmad elected as new Caf president

Madagascar Football Association chief Ahmad Ahmad has been elected Confederation of African Football president, ending Issa Hayatou's 29-year reign.

Ahmad won 34 of the 54 votes in the election, which was held in Addis Ababa on Thursday.

Nunoo-Mensah defeats Prof. Dodoo in GOC polls

The president of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), Ben Nunoo-Mensah, has been elected as the new president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) at an electoral congress of the committee held yesterday at the Swiss Spirit Hotels and Suites Alisa (formerly Alisa Hotel) in Accra.

Mr Nunoo-Mensah, who contested the incumbent Prof. Francis Dodoo for the position, won with a 33-28 result from the total of 61 valid votes cast.

World corporate golf challenge launched in Ghana

The President of the Ghana Golf Association, Mr Michael Aggrey successfully launched the World Corporate Golf Challenge at the Asante Hall of Alisa Swiss Spirit Hotel on Tuesday.

In his address he welcomed the International Chamber of Commerce’s initiative to bring the World Corporate Golf Challenge to Ghana and assured the organizers of the support of the Ghana Golf Association. The family of the late Sam Arday Tuesday paid separate courtesy calls on former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor to inform them about the funeral arrangements for the former national football coach slated for April 7 at the State House in Accra.

The first port of call for the delegation led by James Quarcoo and including a brother, sisters and the son of the late coach was the residence of former President Kufuor in Accra where they briefed him about the ill-health of coach Arday and his subsequent passing on February 12, 2017.
