Ackah Anthony: Former SWAG President & former Graphic Sports Assistant Editor passes away

Mr. Ackah Anthony, the former President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has passed away following a brief illness. He died in the early hours of Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Mr Anthony served as the sixth president of SWAG from 2007 to 2015.

A former Assistant Editor of the Graphic Sports at the Graphic Communications Group Ltd., Mr Anthony was a well-respected columnist. His long-running column, Candid Corner, featured on the back page of The Mirror newspaper, was widely read and revered for its bold commentary and insightful critique of sports development in Ghana.

He played a key role in the redesign and renovation of the SWAG Club House in Dansoman, Accra—an achievement seen as one of his most lasting contributions to the Association’s institutional development.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, a former Director at the Ministry of Information, and four children.

Tributes from colleagues and members of the sports media community have begun to pour in, honouring his contributions to journalism and sports in Ghana.
