Airtel Rising Stars underway

Talented U-17 male footballers across the country have once again been given the opportunity to showcase their skills to coaches and other football scouts following the start of the 4th edition of Airtel's football initiative, Airtel Rising Stars.

The competition has kick-started in the Volta Region since Friday, June 6, at the Ho Sports Stadium with the finals slated for July 10, 2014 in Sunyani. 

Airtel Rising Stars has become the most consistent and best organised youth football programme in Ghana since its inception in 2011. 

Run in conjunction with the Ghana Football Association's National Juvenile Committee, youngsters playing for various colts teams have had the opportunity to play against each other and to also compete against other youngsters from 16 other countries.

This year's games involves four zones from Greater Accra, Volta and Eastern Regions in Zone 1; Northern, Upper West and Upper East Regions in Zone 2;  Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions in Zone 3; and Central and Western Regions in Zone 4. Youngsters playing for various colts teams in the various regions are playing among themselves and regional teams formed to play in the zonal games. 

Gabon will host the African championship in August where national teams from the various 17 countries Airtel operates in will play to determine the African champions.
