Amoah targets bigger impact...Despite impressive debut season with Kotoko

Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has revealed his disappointment at not meeting his personal target despite scoring 12 goals in his debut season with the Porcupine Warriors.

The 23-year-old, who joined Kotoko from Accra Great Olympics, emerged as one of the club’s top scorers this season but admitted in an interview with the club’s official website that he had hoped to score even more.

“I wasn't happy, but it has already happened and there is nothing you can do about it,” he said. “But I will also blame the injuries I sustained during the season, which made things slow for me.”

Amoah also reflected on the team’s inability to clinch the Premier League title despite occupying the top of the table for most of the season, saying the entire squad felt let down by the outcome.

“We were all hurt by the disappointment because we knew what we wanted. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way. There were some mistakes, especially in games where we took the lead both home and away but couldn’t secure the maximum points.”

Despite the heartbreak, Amoah was elated to win his first career silverware, lifting the MTN FA Cup with Kotoko. He expressed hope of adding more trophies to his cabinet.

“It is every player’s dream to win trophies so that one day he can look back and say this is what I achieved. I’m happy to have finally won my first trophy, and I hope to win more going forward.”

Speaking about his on-field partnership with teammate Kwame Opoku, Amoah praised their chemistry and revealed that Opoku often advises him to enjoy the game while staying focused on scoring goals — a responsibility strikers carry.

Amoah also singled out Kotoko’s encounters with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak as the highs and lows of his season, particularly their dramatic last-minute win at home and the frustrating draw in the reverse fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium, where they squandered several scoring chances.

Looking ahead to the next season, Amoah acknowledged the pressure to improve, especially with continental football on the horizon.
