Asem, Arkutu excel at GIWC golf tourney
Godwin Asem and Joy Arkutu emerged tops at the Second Ghana International Women’s Club (GIWC) Charity Golf Championship held at the Celebrity Golf Course at Tema last Saturday.
Asem won the Men’s Group A with 42 points, while Joy beat Florence Etwi-Barimah to claim the Ladies’ Group A prize with 39 points. Etwi-Barimah settled for the second position with 35 points, while Ama Morgan followed closely in the third position with a point less.

Kweku Okyere was the first runner-up to Asem with 39 points, while Ernest O. Kumi finished third with 38 points.
The MTN-sponsored competition, which attracted 80 golfers from across the country, saw the president of the GIWC, Helen Appah, and another member, Betty Allotey, finishing second and third in the Ladies’ B Division with 31 and 26 points respectively behind winner Naomi Addo, who had 33 points.
The Men’s B Division was won by Allan Bibah (39 points), while K. Sekyim-Gorkeh (37 points) and Theo Asampong (36 points) followed in that order.
Boris Afram won the men’s Longest Drive prize, while Leticia Amponsah-Mensah took the ladies’ version of the award.
The Closest-To-The-Pin prize also went to Afram, with Jane Nelson winning the ladies’ prize.
Helen Appah later thanked MTN for sharing in the vision and mission of the club.

Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of MTN, presented a cheque for GH¢2,000 to the club as their contribution to the success of the event.
