Bastie Samir to return in April

Ghana's undefeated boxer, Bastie Samir, says he is looking forward to returning to the ring by April to fight to improve his rankings by the WBO.

Samir told the Graphic Sports in an interview that an opponent and title was yet to be named for his first bout since defeating Braimah Kamoko in a non-title fight in Accra last year, but he remained hopeful of fighting a tougher opponent as he aimed to work his way towards a world title shot.

The 31-year-old light heavyweight fighter saw his planned clash with Benson Mwakyembe (11-3-1, 6KOs) on January 27, being called off after the Tanzanian pull out of the bout.

"I will be returning to the ring by April to fight and improve my ranking by the WBO. I have been ranked number six before but dropped down because of my inactivity.

“The bout is yet to be announced, as well as which belt I will be challenging for however I believe it will be for a tough opponent so that I can improve my ratings for a possible world title shot," he said.

Samir, alias “The Beast”, shot back into the limelight after his seventh round TKO victory against the previously undefeated Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, at the Bukom Boxing Arena in October last year.

When asked what was his next target was Samir noted that he was looking forward to fighting regularly in order to stand a chance of challenging at the top and a possible chance at a world title.
