Black Stars eye consolation win in Unity Cup
The Black Stars of Ghana will be aiming to restore some pride when they take on Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff of the Unity Cup today at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford.
Ghana gallantly bowed out of an opportunity to play in the final last Wednesday after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the semi-finals.
Despite the loss, Coach Otto Addo’s youthful side impressed many Ghanaians with their spirited performance in the absence of key players such as Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey and Inaki Williams.
The third-place clash will see Ghana face off against a Trinidad and Tobago side led by Coach Dwight Yorke, who were edged 3-2 by Jamaica in their semi-final encounter.
Both teams will be eager to finish the tournament on a high, making the fixture a competitive and crucial affair.
Coach Addo is expected to use the opportunity to continue testing some of his fringe players as part of his long-term rebuilding strategy.
Rising stars
Rising stars such as Brandon Thomas-Asante, Caleb Yirenkyi and Christopher Bonsu Baah are likely to feature again, having impressed in the semi-final game against Nigeria.
This will mark the first-ever meeting between the two nations at senior level, as African football powerhouse, Ghana comes up against a Caribbean side that boasts an impressive record of 10 Caribbean Cup titles.
Trinidad and Tobago are likely to field a strong lineup, potentially including standout performers from their opening match such as Noah Powder, Andre Raymond, Daniel Philips, Kevin Molino, and Dantaye Gilbert.
