Ghana arrived in Morrocco two days after the competition had began with only four officials in an austere situation that has compelled the leadership of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) to sacrifice the medical doctor in its bid to manage the tight bugdet.
Mr Gideon Quartey, president of the GABF, who arrived in Morocco yesterday told the Daily Graphic that the situation had placed on him a burden to hire the services of medical doctor in Morocco.
Boxing is a combat undertaking and the presence of a doctor is required, that is why I will have to look for resources to hire a medical doctor for the competion” he stated.
“I have in the past committed my resources into nurturing many boxers, and since I took over as the president of the GABF I have been supporting programmes for the development of our boxers just to ensure that Ghana does not slip into a boxing abys” he stressed.
The nine boxers in the contingent include Suleman Tetteh, Jefferey Lartey, Abdul Wahid Omar, Sulley Mathias, Ali Mohammed, Musah Rahman Lawson
