Breast cancer awareness health walk in Sekondi-Takoradi

Various keep fit clubs, students and other identifiable groups from the Sekondi-Takoradi municipality, last Saturday participated in a health walk designed to create awareness and educate the public about the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

 The exercise, organised by   Breast Care International (BCI) and Peace and Love Hospital, started with a few keep fit clubs at 6 am from   the Jubilee Park in Takoradi, though, Effia-nkwanta, Adiembra,Essikado and Essipon.

 The number, however, swelled up as many others joined in the walk, which was on the theme,‘‘Fighting for Breast Cancer: Free Future,’’

 

 At the stadium, there was a match past of cadets from the various Senior High Schools (SHS) with other student groups performing choreography and gymnastic displays.

  In an address, the President of BCI, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, advised the public to stay away from alcoholic beverages and rather engage in regular exercises for them to stay healthy.

She expressed gratitude to the various school authorities who allowed their students to participate in the exercise, saying continuous awareness creation and education of the disease would reduce the number of cases in the country.

   Stressing, Dr Addai, said “the disease has been killing many people across the world, including Ghana, hence the need for people to report quickly to the hospitals for diagnosis and treatment when they detected unfamiliar lumps in their breasts”.

“Breast cancer is not reserved for only women, hence the need for both sexes to report any symptoms of the disease to the health facilities.’’ she advised
