Global football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has married his longtime partner, model and influencer Georgina Rodríguez, in a civil ceremony in Portugal.
The Portuguese striker shared an image on Instagram showing two hands, presumed to be his and his wife’s, both wearing wedding rings.
Portuguese media have described the ceremony as the “wedding of the year,” reporting that the couple tied the knot on 11 August in the coastal town of Cascais, near Lisbon, with their five children in attendance.
The Instagram post attracted more than three million likes within 30 minutes.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez have been together for 10 years after meeting at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodríguez was working while Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid.
They announced their engagement on 11 August last year, when Rodríguez shared a photo of a large diamond ring and wrote in Spanish: “Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.”
Ronaldo has five children, two of whom he shares with Rodríguez. She has also helped raise his other three children, and the family currently lives in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The couple’s first daughter, Alana Martina, was born in 2017. Their youngest daughter, Bella, was born in April 2022 alongside a twin brother, who died shortly after birth.
Ronaldo has scored nearly 1,000 goals during a career spanning Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team.
The 41-year-old, who captains Portugal, recently featured in his sixth and final World Cup, a record number of appearances in the men’s tournament that he shares with Argentina captain Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or five times, second only to Messi’s record eight victories.
His current club, Al-Nassr, confirmed last year that he had signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at the Riyadh-based club until 2027.
Last year, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimated Ronaldo’s net worth at $1.4 billion (£1.04 billion), making him the first footballer to reach billionaire status.
