Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe tips Simeon-Okraku for future CAF Presidency
FORMER Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has expressed optimism that current GFA President, Kurt Simeon-Okraku, could one day ascend to the position of President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) if he remains diligent and focused in his new role.
Mt Simeon-Okraku was recently appointed as the Second Vice-President of CAF during an Executive Committee meeting held in Accra last Saturday, a move Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe described as "good news for Ghana football."
While congratulating Okraku on his elevation, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe also offered a word of caution and emphasised the importance of prioritising the Confederation’s collective goals over personal ambitions.
He warned that any deviation could be detrimental to the GFA boss’ career.
"I think it's good news for Ghana soccer. Like Kwasi Nyantakyi, who raised Ghana's image to a very high level within CAF and FIFA circles, I believe if Kurt really works hard, he might even become the CAF President," Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stated.
"Integrity and hard work will determine whether he can reach the CAF seat and eventually the FIFA level."
The Hearts of Oak board member further challenged Mr Simeon-Okraku to use his new position to advocate not only for Ghana but also for the betterment of African football, while opening doors for more Ghanaians to take up leadership roles within CAF.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe also acknowledged the lasting impact of former GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi, noting that his outstanding contributions to African football created pathways for future Ghanaian administrators such as Okraku.
"My successor, Kwasi Nyantakyi — if he hadn't encountered difficulties — would have been in very high positions, not only in Africa but globally. He left an indelible mark at CAF, and that has paved the way for Kurt," he explained.
"Kwasi performed excellently; he knew football. I worked with him and can testify to his knowledge. His achievements pushed Ghana forward, and Kurt is now benefitting from that legacy."
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe urged Mr Simeon-Okraku to be firm, fair and transparent in his dealings, ensuring that his service impacts football not just locally or continentally, but globally.
"I pray that Kurt does everything properly — be firm and fair — and ensures that football is served not only in Africa but around the world," he said.
