The national association, chaired in the interim by Park Kojo Okyere, said: “The aim of the association is to develop our most cherished game of ‘dame’ as it is popularly called in Ghana into a highly competitive national sport that will help create jobs for those who would take it as a profession”.

They added: “We will be organising annual national competitions which will be preceded by regional/zonal competitions to determine the participants in the national event.”

In a letter dated December 9, 2013, addressed to the National Sports Authority and copied to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the association said: “We have put together an interim constitution which will serve as our working document, code of conduct and rules to govern the association in all our dealings. We will consult the National Sports Authority and the ministry for guidance and support.”

One-time national draught champion, George Afrifa, aka Kiki Way, along with prominent players such as Arday, Nii Ayi, Kumah and Ortega were part of the signatories of the resolution at the Community Centre in Tema which gave birth to the new association.
