Famiyeh, Arti show class at Sixth Mission Open Junior Taekwondo Championship

A student of the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) Takoradi, Ebenezer Famiyeh, has emerged the best male performer at the Sixth Mission Open Junior Taekwondo Championship at the Accra Stadium with Mercy Arti grabbing the female version of the award.

Salifu Tokani and Fati Baidoo won the male and female most promising athletes last Saturday.  

In other competition, Mariam Max-Vey won the female under- 68kg with Abigail Larbi, Ellen Boateng and Elizabeth Boatema following in that order.

In the other male category, Emmanuel Fameyeh won the under- 55kg with Salifu Tokani placing second and Ebenezer Dzotram and Elikem Aseke finishing joint third. 

Bernard Dekapim emerged champion in the under- 63kg with Ransford Annang, David Peterson and Salifu Ibrahim finishing second and third respectively.

In the rest of the female competitions, Abigail Bimpong beat Hamdiatu Bashiru and Beatrice Addae to the second and third positions respectively.

In his closing address, the president of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), Frederick Otu Lartey said the competiton would help unearth young athletes.

He said the competition was part of the federation’s preparations for the 2020 Olympics.

He also thanked the taekwondo silver medalist at the last All Africaa Games, David Koney Adjetey, for sponsoring the medals for the competition.

The Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Saka Acquaye lauded the athletes for their interest in helping win laurels for the nation in the future.
