Female Taekwondo Championship June 4

Methodist Girls Senior High School at Mamfe in the Eastern Region will host the maiden Eastern Regional Taekwondo (TKD) Championship slated for June 4, this year.

The all-female competition is expected to bring together over 60 taekwondo practititoners and clubs from second cycle schools who have already registered to participate.

Mr Adnan Lamptey of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GFT) told the Daily Graphic that the federation was implementing the regulations guiding the sport in order to promote and develop the sport at the district level.

He said only registered practitioners, clubs and regional associations qualified as members of the GTF and that any other unregistered body fell outside the ambit of the federation. 

Mr Lamptey added that the quest by the GTF to widen the scope and develop taekwondo across the 10 regions of the country  was yielding results with the regional taekwondo championship stopping in the Eastern Region after the Western and Brong Ahafo regional editions.

The occasion will also witness the election and swearing-in of an executive committee for the Eastern Regional Taekwondo Association in accordance with the constitution of the GTF and the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
