Fulfil Game Changer promises first – George Afriyie tells GFA boss

Mr George Akwasi Afriyie, Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirant, has challenged the current President of the GFA, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, to honour the promises he made to the football community at the 2019 Elective Congress, instead of making new promises.

Mr Afriyie, who was reacting to the proceedings at the 29th GFA Ordinary Congress held in Kumasi last week, said the event was more like a campaign ground for Mr Simeon-Okraku rather than a congress.

“We went to congress expecting Mr Okraku and his ExCo (Executive Council) members to take stock of the past season and make projections into the coming year, but he came to campaign by making more promises,” he said.

“He has failed to fulfil about 75 per cent of the promises he made in the Game Changer manifesto; yet, he is making more new promises that are not achievable,” he noted.

The CEO of Planners Athletic Club bemoaned the poor showing of the various national teams in recent times, saying the FA president had turned the teams into a private venture to enrich himself instead of considering the greater good of Ghana Football.

He was, however, hopeful that the delegates would vote wisely at the upcoming elective congress in October to enable him to wrest power from the current administration and salvage the declining fortunes of the national teams.
