It will be the first time Ghana will participate in swimming at the Olympics since making her debut in 1952 (64 years ago).

According to the president of the Ghana Swimming Association,  Theo Wilson Edzie, four swimmers (Abeiku Gyekye Jackson, Kwesi Jackson, Natasha Adda and Kaya Forson), who represented Ghana at last year's World Aquatics Championships in Russia, are in contention for only two available slots, courtesy the Universality Placement system at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

He explained that at least two Ghanaians would participate at the Olympics through the quota system, while another swimmer, Abeiku Jackson, who is close to meeting the qualifying standards, could qualify on merit at the final Olympic qualifier slated for May in Romania.

"After the last World Championships in Kazan, Russia, it was decided that all nations who participated in that event would be granted quota places at the 2016 Olympics," Mr Edzie told the Graphic Sports last Tuesday.

He added that, "the association is yet to decide on the swimmers it will present for the games but at the moment, I would tip Abeiku and Kwesi for those spots."
