Ghana Premier League: Asante Kotoko jump to top spot with narrow win

Kumasi Asante Kotoko returned to the summit of the Premier League table after edging past Karela United 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Justice Blay proved decisive, converting a penalty in the 63rd minute to separate the sides in a tightly contested match.

Despite not being at their fluent best, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum's side secured the points needed to leapfrog Gold Stars at the top of the table with 34 points from 18 matches, strengthening their title charge.

FC Samartex 1996 were forced to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Dreams FC at the Nsenkyire Stadium.

The hosts took the lead early in the second half through Alhassan Mankuyali Mohammed, but Dreams hit back with a fine equaliser from Joseph Esso.

While Samartex remain 10th with 23 points, Dreams' struggles continue as they drop into the bottom three despite earning a valuable point on the road.

Young Apostles clinched local bragging rights with a 1-0 win over Nsoatreman FC in the Bono derby at the Wenchi Stadium.

Emmanuel Fosu Kyei struck the decisive blow ten minutes into the second half, securing the Apostles' fifth win of the season. The victory moves them up to 11th with 21 points, while Nsoatreman FC hover dangerously above the relegation zone in 14th place with 18 points.

Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Basake Holy Stars side in a tightly contested affair at the AAK II Sports Arena.

Despite dominating possession, the Phobians were unable to break down the hosts' stubborn defence. The result leaves Hearts fifth in the table with 30 points, four points adrift of leaders Kotoko.

Berekum Chelsea made it two consecutive home wins with a 1-0 victory over Vision FC at the Golden City Park.

Emmanuel Sarpong’s composed 25th-minute strike was enough to secure all three points for the hosts. Chelsea now sit in eighth place with 25 points, while Vision remain 12th with 19 points.

Bechem United continued their impressive form with a commanding 2-0 victory over Nations FC at the Nana Gyeabour Park.

Isaiah Nyarko opened the scoring with a well-timed effort in the 27th minute before Emmanuel Abban sealed the win in the 84th minute.

The result lifts Bechem to sixth with 30 points, while Nations drop to fourth.

Hearts of Lions secured a vital 2-1 victory over Aduana FC in an exciting clash at the Kpando Stadium.

Kwesi Pong set the tone with an early opener, and Seedorf Asante doubled the lead before half-time. Aduana managed to pull one back through Akwasi Asante but could not prevent their sixth defeat of the season. Lions hold onto third place with 33 points, while Aduana languish in 13th place with 18 points.
