The team consists of six male and four female athletes, including seasoned rowers and canoers such as Ebenezer Okronipah, Emmanuel Okronipah and Vida Ohenewaa, who are currently in a training camp at Ada, preparing for the qualifiers.

The President of the Ghana Rowing and Canoeing Federation, Kamal Sulley, shared insights with Graphic Sports via telephone from Tunis last Saturday on the team's preparation.

"We are also preparing for the World Canoeing Championship in Duisburg, Germany, which starts from August 15 to 25, which is also an Olympic qualifier," said.

Mr Sulley, who is in Tunisia as a competition director for the 2nd African Beach Games and Ocean Canoe Championships in the coastal town of Hammamet, said he was confident that the Ghanaians would qualify for the Olympics in Paris.

He emphasised the remarkable progress that Ghana had made in rowing and canoeing and the team's unwavering dedication to their goal of Olympic qualification and success at the World Championships.

"We have come a long way with respect to rowing and canoeing in the country and we are well-focused and prepared to qualify for the Olympics and the World Championships," he added.

He revealed that his role in Tunisia was to officiate in the championship and supervise other officials at the competition and was looking forward to sharing his knowledge and experience with officials in Ghana upon his return.

"Rowing and Canoeing is an interesting, thrilling and exciting sport and I will urge all Ghanaians to take part for good health and exercise as well as intrigue," he said.
