Ghanaian coaches are jokers - Faisal coach

King Faisal’s Romanian Coach, Dorian Mara, has described Ghanaian national team coaches as a bunch of jokers who lack basic understanding of how to relate to helmsmen whose players are invited for national duties.

He was furious after his side’s goalless drawn game against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium yesterday, and blamed it on the absence of one of his key players, Sulley Mohammed.

Mohammed was invited to join the national Under-20 team while injured but was featured in a friendly against Liberty Professionals recently before the team broke camp.

The Romanian trainer said ideally, the national team coach, Sellas Tetteh, should have conferred with him or officials of Faisal to know the true state of the player’s health and not use him to aggravate the injury, thereby making him unavailable for his club.

He said either the player feigned injury in order to join the national team or that there was a systemic failure with regard to relationship between the national team coach and him.

“I know I can give Sulley GH¢100 to feign injury,’ he said without saying whether he had dealt with the player in that manner before.

The coach was given the marching orders by Referee Seidu Bomison in yesterday’s game for first engaging in a clash with Hearts’ Selassi Adjei and later with his own assistant, Prince Acheampong, for issuing counter instructions.

“We have had a meeting on this, yet today I see everybody issuing out instructions even from the VVIP Stand,’ he noted, adding that ‘this is a Premier League and not just any league.”

For his part, Hearts’ coach, Mohammed Polo, blamed his side’s poor showing on poor refereeing and urged the Referees Association of Ghana (GRA) to sanitise the system.

• At Dansoman, Kwame Larweh reports that visiting Kumasi Asante Kotoko yesterday suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park in Accra.

Winger Michael Appiah’s solo run into the box saw him send a low cross to an advancing Cissey Mohammed who cooly flicked the ball to the blind side of Joseph Addo in the 51st minute.

Kotoko started well and made an onslaught in search of an early goal but the Liberty defence stood tall and repelled all those attacks.

Back from recess, the homesters took control of the game and had their efforts rewarded through a lurking Cissey Mohammed.

Kotoko fought back in search of the equaliser but defenders Latif Abubakar and Anthony Nimo were up to the task.

• At the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, AshantiGold came from behind to overpower New Edubiase 2-1 in their regional derby yesterday.

The victory ended the Miners’ six-game drought.

• Bismark Idan shot New Edubiase ahead in the 27th minute, only to provoke a double reaction from Alhaji Sani and Didier Kore to give Ashgold a big relief.
