After winning praise for performing during Ghana’s 69th Independence anniversary celebrations in Accra, Fiifi Coleman Productions is taking I Told You So! to Cape Coast for a special presentation dubbed I Told You So! — The Afahye Experience.
The production is scheduled for Friday, September 4 and 5 at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) Cape Coast, with performances at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day.
The Cape Coast edition marks a new chapter in the journey of the production, which recently brought a classic Ghanaian story to the stage through a contemporary blend of theatre, music, dance, comedy and social commentary.
Originally produced as a film in the 1970s by the late Bob Cole, I Told You So was reimagined by Fiifi Coleman for a contemporary audience while retaining the moral questions at the heart of the story.
The production explores themes including love and marriage, family expectations, social responsibility and the tension between tradition and modernity.
Its staging during the Independence anniversary celebrations in Accra gave the production a strong national and cultural significance, with the story inviting audiences to reflect on what society chooses to preserve and what it is willing to discard.
Now, Fiifi Coleman Productions is moving the production from the national celebration in Accra to the cultural atmosphere of Cape Coast, where it will be presented as part of the Afahye experience.
“The response to I Told You So! in Accra was overwhelming, and we felt it was important to share the experience with audiences beyond the capital. Cape Coast, especially during the Afahye season, provides the perfect setting to celebrate our culture through theatre,” Fiifi Coleman said.
The Cape Coast edition will give patrons a fresh opportunity to enjoy the production while celebrating Ghanaian culture and tradition.
