Celebrating Ghana’s football prowess

At the media launch of the festival on Friday (December 20, 2024) in Accra, host Gary Al-Smith described the event as a "fusion of football and entertainment," highlighting its potential to "unite people, bring communities together, and celebrate Ghana’s vibrant football culture."

He added, “Football is not just about the trophies won; it’s about the stories we create, the moments we share, and the magic that lives on in our hearts long after the final whistle.”

Honoring legends and mentoring the future

The event will feature a grand homecoming parade of Ghanaian international football stars, accompanied by an exclusive mentorship program.

These icons will share insights with young, aspiring footballers. "This tournament... is a stage for talent to shine, for friendships to be forged, and for dreams to come alive," noted Al-Smith during his remarks.

Uncovering fresh talent

At the heart of the festival is an 8-team football tournament, providing young players a platform to showcase their skills in front of top international scouts.

Baba Sadiq, Founder of FullCircle MGT, highlighted the festival’s mission: "We’re connecting passions across football, music, lifestyle, and entertainment to reignite interest in the sport while creating a powerful platform to discover young talents."

Football Museum

Another festival highlight is the debut of Ghana’s first-ever football museum, showcasing memorabilia from legends. International Liaison Officer Delali Frank Awutey explained, “We’ve managed to talk to legends who have agreed to donate items like medals, jerseys, and gloves. It’s a chance for fans to see and feel the rich history of Ghanaian football.”

Awutey mentioned the significance of the museum, adding, “When you come to the festival, you’ll see items like the first jersey worn by some of our Black Stars legends. It’s not just about showcasing history—it’s about preserving it for future generations.”

Festive atmosphere

The festival offers more than just football. Fans will also enjoy activities such as fan challenges, influencer interactions, and brand showcases. The day will culminate in live performances by top Ghanaian and international artists, creating a powerful blend of sports, music, and culture.

Musicians billed to perform at the event include R2Bees, Pappy Kojo, Larruso, and a lineup of surprise acts.

Vision for the future

Felix Romark of Football Impact Africa described the festival’s long-term goals: "This is something for the future... we want to create a compelling product that celebrates the passion of football while advancing conversations around sustainability in the sport."

Al-Smith urged attendees to recognize the significance of the event’s beginnings, stating, “What we are starting today may seem small, but in 10 years, it will be something you’ll proudly say, ‘I was here.’”

Former Ghanaian footballers have been confirmed for the event, while current stars such as MLS-based Joseph Paintsil and others in the country for the Christmas break will have a presence.
