Gnagne rejects new Hearts contract?

Skipper Robin Gnagne appears to be slipping through the grips of Accra Hearts of Oak following a shock decision by the player to reject a new deal offered him, in the latest twist of a protracted attempt to renew his contract.

The Ivorian-born player, according to Hearts sources, was unhappy with the amount offered him for a two-year renewal of his contract with the Phobians.

Gnagne, whose contract expires at the end of the current football season, was offered a new deal in April this year to extend his contract for another two years. He initially agreed to a pre-renewal contract in the amount of GH¢60,000.

Unfortunately, the Phobians could not raise the money in time to complete the player’s signing but promised to make good on their part of the deal in the coming months. The player, according to close sources, agreed with the arrangement and pledged his commitment to the Phobians in a letter sent through his manager to the Hearts management.

In fact, negotiations took place at the time Hearts were steeped in their Confederation Cup campaign and the player was prepared to give his full concentration to the competition. However, now that the Phobians are ready with the cash, the player is said to be reluctant to accept the offer.

Hearts sources say Gnagne is demanding that the deal be reviewed upwards in view of the current depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar and other international currencies.

Since signing for Hearts, Gnagne, a product of the Red Bull Football Academy, has established himself as a key actor in the Phobian outfit and one of the best backliners in the Ghana Premier League.
