Ghana: Helen Appah wins Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup

The Lady Captain of the Celebrity Golf Club, Helen Appah will represent Ghana at the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup (TAWGC) grand finale to be held in the Mediterranean city of Antalya, Turkey later in October this year after winning the Ghana qualifiers last Saturday in Accra.

Madam Appah playing with a handicap of 24 returned an individual Stableford points tally of 37 to win the competition which was dominated by leaders past and present of the Sakumono-based club.

She was tied at 37 with current captain of the club Geoffrey Avornyotse who only missed out on countback in the close contest involving 120 amateur golfers.

For her prize, Madam Appah won a trophy as well as return Business Class flights with Turkish Airlines to the TAWGC, all expenses paid stay at the 5-star Titanic Deluxe Belek resort, a two-round Grand Final at Titanic Golf Club and season tickets to attend the Turkish Airlines Open, which will be held at Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort, Belek, Antalya.

She will also participate in the TAWGC finale which presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in the Pro-Am of the Turkish Airlines Open for the winner.

Over previous years, Finalists have partnered among others, Henrik Stenson, Martin Kaymer, Victor Dubuisson, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and 14-time Major Champion Tiger Woods in the pre-tournament Pro-Am.

Mrs Adelaide Owusu-Agyapong, the wife of Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Felix Owusu-Agyapong came third with 36 points while former captain Francis Akwasi Opoku shot 79 to win the lowest-gross title.

The Nearest-to-the-Pin honours were claimed by Aileen Conteh (16 metres) and Jack Yang (two metres) in the respective female and male categories.

The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series became the widest reaching in corporate golf in 2017 with almost 8,000 participants contesting a 100-event Qualifying Series, which took place in 60 countries worldwide.

For the Grand Finale winners, a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in the Pro-Am of the Turkish Airlines Open awaits.
